In 1996, the Washington State Legislature recognized the critical role of technology in education and authorized the building of the $55 million K-20 Education Network. Believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, the K-20 Education Network was born of the collaborative efforts of representatives of K-12, community and technical colleges, baccalaureate institutions, the Department of Information Services, the Legislature and private-sector technology providers.
