LATEST GREEN RIVER VALLEY FLOODING UPDATE:
We are working on a more complete response, but it looks like the K-20 backbone is secure. KOCO is evaluating the possibility of building a contingency path in the very minor chance that their fiber in the flood zone is compromised. K-20 representatives are in close contact with State and King County emergency management officials. The Corps of Engineers has published maps on their web site depicting flooding zones based on various river cubic feet volumes.
K-20 and DIS are working to identify the exact paths of each of our circuits in the Green River valley. We have some data, but are working with telecommunications carriers to obtain confidential information on each path. When we get that data, we will be able to tell which end sites have paths through the affected areas. We MAY have an opportunity to find other routes, but that is unknown at this time. In the event of a major flood the power outages will be widespread, and only after the water is removed and health & safety inspections are completed will electrical and telecom providers be allowed access to the areas. Additionally, prior to power restoration at each facility, an electrical inspection will be required to be completed by an L&I inspector. The major focus is on preservation of life and public safety. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
